South London’s Joy Crookes is really cool.
Her voice sounds like a throwback, giving you a sense of déjà vu. You swear you’ve heard her voice before, but then you realise that you’re thinking of British soul legends such as Dusty Springfield and Lauryn Hill.
Crookes’ latest single, “Power” comes off her project ‘Influence’ – a project which makes it impossible to believe that the artist is just 18 years old. It’s fierce and strong, but also innocent. In an interview Joy said that the song was inspired by the incidents at Grenfell tower.
Get to know Joy Crokes now, because soon everyone will be saying her name.
