The BPI today welcomed the news that Michael Dugher has been appointed the new CEO of music industry umbrella body UK Music.
Dugher, who joins in May, will take over from Jo Dipple, who leaves after nine years heading the organisation.
Michael Dugher is a former Shadow Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport and has been a Labour MP for the seat of Barnsley East since 2010. He announced he was leaving the House of Commons earlier this month.
Geoff Taylor, Chief Executive BPI & BRIT Awards, said:
“We welcome the appointment of Michael Dugher as UK Music’s new CEO. Michael has long shown himself to be a friend to the British music industry – valuing the dynamic contribution it makes to our culture and economy and understanding the vital importance of protecting and promoting strong IP as a cornerstone of its success. We look forward to working with Michael and wish him all the very best in this new role as we do to Jo as she steps down with our thanks to embark on a new chapter in her career.”
