BPI, representing the UK's recorded music industry, has joined tens of thousands of creatives, creative and rights-holder organisations around the world in support of the Statement on AI Training:

“The unlicensed use of creative works for training generative AI is a major, unjust threat to the livelihoods of the people behind those works, and must not be permitted.”

The statement has been supported by over 32,000 signatories, including multi-platinum selling musicians, Nobel Prize-winning authors, and Oscar-winning actors and composers.

Signatories include Thom Yorke (Radiohead), Björn Ulvaeus (ABBA), Roger Daltrey (The Who), Robert Smith (The Cure), Max Richter and Sir John Rutter.

It comes at a critical time for creators and rights-holders in the UK and beyond, as concerns mount that the UK government is considering introducing a text and data mining (TDM) copyright exception which would allow AI companies to train their models on artists' works without permission.
